Rather than being the all-seeing, all-knowing, all-doing hero you’re probably used to at this point, your character is laughably human. Flaws are rewarded (if you can call it that) by doing something wrong enough times. Take too much fall damage? You’ll get Acrophobia and suffer a small loss to your Perception, Dexterity and Temperament.

This may sound like an annoying game mechanic, but flaws are completely optional for you to take on. You’ll get offered the choice and if you say yes you’ll be given a perk point as a reward. With only 15 perk points available at the maximum level, you’re going to want to take on a few if you want to get the most out of it.

Although there aren’t too many flaws in the game, there are a few that are actually worth getting. A perk point is worth the occasional disadvantage. Here are all the known ones so far.

Weaponise your character's fear with these Outer Worlds Flaws

One of the most peculiar additions to Obsidian's RPG formula is The Outer Worlds' Flaws system, which exists to debuff your character at random points in the game in exchange for an extra perk point. Usually Flaws arrive when you get attacked by a certain type of enemy too much, or repeatedly engage in a harmful behaviours.

Fall from a great height too many times and you’ll receive a Flaw. Take too many drugs? That’s a flaw, you miscreant! Check out our list below of all of the Flaws we’ve encountered so far in The Outer Worlds.

The Outer Worlds: Worst Flaws

The Outer Worlds is an action-adventure game that came out in 2019. As an original game, position in space and featuring all sorts of exploration, there were a lot of expectations surrounding it, and it largely lived up to them. One one-of-a-kind mechanic that made The Outer Worldsso interesting to play was the mechanic called "flaws.:

The flaw mechanic in The Outer Worlds is a unique system that allows players to voluntarily seize on character traits that appear with both benefits and negative effects. The flaw is triggered when a player encounters certain enemies or environmental hazards multiple times, and the game presents the player with an option to accept a flaw. Whilst the flaw mechanic isn't as fleshed out or developed as some players would like, it's still a fun mechanic that adds to the game's uniqueness. While some flaws are so great that they just look like perks, there are a ton of flaws that are outright bad.

6 Robophobia

The Robophobia flaw is easily one of the worst in the game. The premise behind it is that the player character has a phobia of robotic enemies, which de-buffs the player in encounters against them. Wit acrophobia outer worlds

finally got around to playing this, are almost all the negative traits (like mauled arms or permanent concussion) not worth getting? first one i found was acrophobia, which sound funny at the time (not realizing it wasnt just a -1, but -7 on some traits) and after that they just have been garbage.

i even was thinking of a dumber example, like lose an arm, now you cant use 2 hand or heavy weapons, and you reload slower. but hey you can get a perk. then realized it STILL would be better because at least depending on play style it doesnt matter, just use one handed melee and a handgun with an extended mag. it would actualy be better roleplay.

how did they screw up this badly?
IMO the negative traits aren't worth the single perk point you get, mostly because the perks aren't that great and any that are worth getting you can afford with the points you get from leveling up naturally. There is an achievement for having x amount of negatives if you care about that.

By end game the extra damage neg. traits are inconsequential but some of them are just a pain in the ass to have to deal with (like paranoid and acrophobia... i have just BARELY failed a lot of speech
