Why is it called the World Series?

Hi;
This is a question I have wondered about since a teen. Many countries have our form of Baseball. So we never play teams outside The United States. So if that’s the Case How can it be the Earth Series? That’s like the heavyweight Championship of the World. Since most of the Pugilism matches( Boxing ) take place between Americans . Same question. Can You give me a satisfactory answer?

I think it’s something to do with the New York World newspaper.

Its not quite the same as boxing is expose to boxers from other countries, and the current and previous world champions are both British.
Am i correct in thinking that the winners of the Super Bowl are called the planet champions.

Are there not any Canadian teams in Major League Baseball? While it is not truly international like the Olympics, MLB does have at least Toronto representing “the rest of the world”… lol!
It would be cool to incorporate playoffs with the Japanese teams as skillfully for a true World Series.

It was Tom Herr’s greatest season and his greatest disappointment. Forty years later, the pride and the pain still resonate.
Every time Herr’s name is mentioned alongside the St. Louis Cardinals, so are two numbers that don’t seem to fit together: 8 home runs and 110 RBIs. That’s what the Hempfield grad posted in 1985.
The performance was a statistical anomaly, duplicated only once since 1950, and a tribute to everything Herr represented as a big leaguer.
The second baseman was old school, from not wearing batting gloves to his helmet not having earflaps, and his approach fit an era when hitting the ball over the fence wasn’t the top priority.
Everything fell into place during one magical summer when Herr was in his athletic prime and found himself living in his baseball Camelot.
Vince Coleman, the rookie of the year, and Willie McGee, the most valuable player, batted in front of Herr. Jack Clark, one of the great sluggers of the day, batted after him.
Herr was an All-Star. He stole 31 bases in 34 tries, walked 80 times compared to 55 strikeouts, was fifth in the MVP voting and was worth 5.6 wins above replacement.
“It took me to the next level as far as how I was v
Why Is the World Series Called the World Series If Only American Teams Play?

Major League Baseball is the professional baseball organization in the USA and is made up of two leagues, the American League and the National League. The World Series is the annual championship played between the winner of each league.
The American League
Before we go into any great detail about the origin of the title 'World Series', we’ll first look at the different baseball leagues within the United States to get a better understanding of how their system works. The American League is comprised of three divisions, each representing a different geographical area:
The American League West is made up of:

The National League
Like the American League, the National League comprises of th

Origin of the Name "World Series"
One baseball myth that just won't die is that the "World Series" was named for the New York World newspaper, which supposedly sponsored the earliest contests. It didn't, and it wasn't.In fact, the postseason series between the AL and NL champs was originally known as the "Championship of the World" or "World's Championship Series." That was shortened through usage to "World's Series" and finally to "World Series."
This usage can be traced through the annual baseball guides. Spalding's Base Ball Guide for 1887 reported the results of the 1886 postseason series between Chicago, champions of the National League, and St. Louis, champions of the American Association, under the heading "The World's Championship." As the editor noted, the two leagues "both entitle their championship contests each season as those for the base ball championship of the United States," so a more grandiose name was required to describe the postseason showdown between the two "champions of the United States."
But the Spalding Guide -- which,
