Heavy Bowgun users have low mobility, but its simple controls, lofty damage, and capability to block more than make up for it.

Because of its low mobility, Heavy Bowgun users should be aware of how to restrain monsters easily, whether through inflicting abnormal statuses, setting traps, or other ways, in order to deal the most damage. All Weapons in Monster Hunter World Ranked

There are 14 different weapon types in Monster Hunter World and options like the Greatsword and the Lightbowgun that stand out in any hunt. But other weapons have some unique qualities that make them a great choice in a group or for the average player. This list will rank the weapons from best to worst in an average sense.

MHW Weapon Tier List:

  • S-Tier: Great Sword, Light Bowgun, Dual Blades.
  • A-Tier: Long Sword, Bow, Heavy Bowgun, Charge Blade, Hammer.
  • B-Tier: Hunting Horn, Sword & Shield, Insect Glaive, Switch Axe.
  • C-Tier: Gun Lance, Lance.

No D-Tier is needed for this list because none of the weapons in Monster Hunter World are truly horrible. With the right setup and plenty of practice, any weapon has the potential to decimate a monster faster than you can imagine. However, how you play can affect your experience with each weapon on the list.

Choosing a Weapon in MHW

When choosing a Weapon, it is important to consider its Damage Type and/or Status Effect to take advantage of a Monster's weaknesses.

  • Raw (Physical) Damage from Weapons is dealt as one of three types: Cutting (Sever), Blunt, and Ammo, while Elemental Damage has five types: Fire, Water, Thunder, Ice, and Dragon.
  • Status Effects do not directly deal damage, but rather build up effects including Poison, Stun, Paralysis, Sleep, and Blast.
  • Monsters' resistance to Raw and Elemental Damage will vary by body part, while resistance to Status Effects vary by Monster.

Additionally, keep in mind that wielding a Blademaster (melee) Weapon will reduce Physical Damage taken, while ranged Weapons will reduce Elemental Damage taken.

Also not all upgrades will be avalible at the start of MHW. you will see an Under Development area of the upgrade Screen, these will update as the story progresses.

  • At the start of the game you will be able to upgrade your weapons to Rarity 4.
  • After arriving in the Rotten Vale and doing some Exploring, you will get a Field Master(Tracker) cut scene.

    Co-Op MHW Weapon Tier List

    D-Tier Weapons (Co-op)
