Frostfang Barioth has arrived in Monster Hunter: World, coming in as a new beast to overcome in the name of acquiring sweet armor sets. It’s the most recent update of the game’s Summer/Fall 2020 roadmap for the Iceborne expansion. For anyone who has lapsed since MHW came out in 2018, the Iceborne update, which dropped in 2019, saw a flock of Legiana mass-migrating beyond the sea. Of course, the commission had to investigate this, and tracked them to a polar region known as Hoarfrost Reach.

I'm aware I'll probably sound like a scrub by posting this, but I don't really care right now. I just need some advice. I saw the FF Barioths gunlance and decided I really want it. I went into a co-op mission last night with a friend and we pretty much got destroyed. Decided to strive it solo and not much changed. Got my ♥♥♥ handed to me. Thing is I'm seeing people saying it's too easy which leads me to believe I'm either too fragile or just really REALLY terrible at this fight (which is entirely possible considering my path record with this game)

Strategy so far has been go in, hit it against the wall, get some slinger ammo and use the spike for extra damage and unload the normal shelling combo as much as possible. (Using gunlance if that wasn't clear). Put a trap down if necessary to maintain it still to either obtain the spike in or just unload some free damage. That part usually goes off without a hitch, but after that I just die in maybe one or two hits. I rarely have enough time to recover and often get stuck in the ice which I've found usually just means death.

Gear: Uragan braces and greaves (b+) and Zora (a+) for everything else. Gunlance is usually Highness's Fury (No idea

Review: Frostfang Barioth
After about 3hours of hunting him and managing to kill Frostfang Barioth 23times (12kills, 11 captures) around that time both in solo and in duo hunts I think I have a fairly decent idea of Frostfang Barioth and how it fits the game design.

Now his event quest is MR6, with the MR requirement of MR24, which means that he is a post-story monster. But by no means is he like Alatreon or Kulve-taroth which both are MR24 as well.

Now normally I would say this makes sense, but considering the fight and mechanics of it, it doesn't really make sense.

Now this is just my own opinions, so take it with what it's worth. Your experiences may wary.


"He's basically normal Barioth with a few additions and gimmicks"

Meaning that the base moveset he uses is that of a Barioth, but it does have a decent amount of move-sets that differ it from the normal one.

  1. He can now super-hop twice in a row and has a long wind-up (& sound) that shows he's about to do it.

  2. He has a long frostbeam attack similar to Velkhana, which he does twice as Velkhana does as well, but F.Barioths causes slow status.

    Characteristics

    A Barioth variant capable of spewing a sub-zero breath attack that it uses to slow down prey. Be careful, as this attack can freeze you as well.

    Useful Info

    Breaking both of its fangs will weaken its frosty breath. If flinched, it may shoot out a breath of ice upon recovering. Thaw out any icy patches on the ground with Torch Pods.
